Google shuts down voice dialogs

Effective June 13, 2023, Google will shut down all so-called “conversational actions” for their Google Assistant. That means that every action that involves a speech dialog, like food ordering, games, educational apps, story telling, in fact, every application that requires questions and answers, will be canceled.

The only actions remaining will be smart home applications, app and media actions, and actions from web content. So effectively, the Google Assistant is then crippled down to a simple command-and-control interface.

That step might be consequent, though, because the number of conversational actions was never very big and their quality, at least in my experience, was never very good. This is a bit surprising because the Google Assistant is, in fact, present in any Android smartphone and the potential market is huge.

That’s it, Alexa, you can take it from here.
